Proposed Community Garden Sites

City Hall Lawns 2263 Santa Clara Ave City of Alameda – High visibility – Lawns are used for multiple purposes, including hosting delegations with lawn chairs.
Old Gas Station 1500 Oak St – High visibility – Small
– Lot is toxic under the cement and there are no funds to clean it up (planter boxes?)
Tilden lot – High visibility – Small (30×100)
– Funky
– Sometimes up for sale, not sure who owns it
Encinal median strip, between High & Fernsid None City of Alameda – Pretty visible
– City ownership

Old railroad right of way between Atlantic & Eagle None Railroad, but in litigation – Huge site
– Potentially city-owned
– The City is in the middle of a lawsuit with the railroad regarding this property. There was a ballot measure (4) that passed to make it into a park. Once the suit is settled, there may be more opportunity

– Site used to be toxic, but was cleaned up.

The Energy sub-group is focused on sustainability issues related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Initial Efforts

  • Residential Energy Efficiency: Formulate and implement an education and outreach program to help homeowners increase the energy efficiency of their homes.
  • Business and Commercial Energy Efficiency: Formulate and implement an education and outreach program to assist business owners and commercial property owners in increasing energy efficiency.
  • Solar Schools: Initiate a dialogue with Alameda Unified School District to install photovoltaic systems on Alameda schools
