DESCRIPTION:Come play a Sea Level Rise board game at the Oakland Coliseum BART station!\nThursday\, May 10th from 4-7pm at the parking lot entrance.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“In It Together” is a board game that explores how diverse communities around San Leandro Bay (the Estuary) can work together to build greater resilience to sea level rise. The aim of the game is to educate and spark dialog. The game illustrates how climate change will impact our neighborhoods. It explores how adaptation strategies like living levees or affordable housing can make communities resilient to challenges both immediate and long-term. As a decision-making tool\, as well\, it can help community members\, advocates\, and agencies understand each others’ goals and find creative ways to work together.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis game was produced by the All Bay Collective\, a group of locally based and globally experienced professionals\, academics\, students\, and policymakers who created designs and planning tools for the Estuary as part of the Resilient by Design Challenge. This game was designed by students at California College of the Arts led by Janette Kim: Shahad Alamoudi\, Marwan Barmasood\, Georgia Came\, Denisse Correa Guerra\, Ally Foronda\, Eric Fura\, Francisco Garcia\, Jessica Grinaker\, Fathmath Isha\, Lori Martinez\, Jennifer Pandian and Sabrina Schrader. Come learn… \n\nHow we can best “sequester” carbon in Alameda\nWhat other sustainable cities are doing today\nAbout Paul Hawken’s “Project Drawdown”\n\n \nCan we sequester carbon in Alameda?\nUnanimously approved by City Council (Dec 5th)\, the City of Alameda has launched a planning process to update its 2008 Local Action Plan for Climate Protection. During the month of January CASA interns\, sponsored by Brown University\, will be researching strategies for how Alameda can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and become a more sustainable and resilient city. A focus of their research will be carbon sequestration. What are all the opportunities on Alameda to sequester carbon? Which would be most impactful? Most cost-effective? What are the barriers to implementing those opportunities? The interns will report on their findings at this forum. \nWhat are other sustainable cities doing today?\nThis forum will also feature a panel of experts who will provide observations and lessons learned about what makes a city sustainable. \nGil Friend\, Chief Sustainability Officer\, City of Palo Alto\nCharged to “develop a world class sustainability strategy…and lead Palo Alto be being the greenest city in America.” \nKevin Bayuk\, Senior Fellow\, Project Drawdown\nWorks at the intersection of ecology and economy where permaculture design meets cooperative organizations intent on meeting human needs while enhancing the conditions conducive to all life.
