Climate Reality Presentations via Zoom

Want to do more to protect the climate?  CASA’s own Joyce Mercado is offering free zoom Climate Reality presentations for you and your friends and neighbors.  A description is below.  If you are interested in hosting a presentation with Joyce to your group, email info@casa-alameda.org.  You can help spread the word about the climate crisis and what actions people can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate Reality and Actions You Can Take to Address It

Presenter Joyce Mercado recently became part of former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. Joyce attended training by Al Gore in Minneapolis in 2019 and now joins over 5,000 other Climate Leaders from around the world in presenting new information on climate change to the public. Topics include the causes of climate change, temperature increases, climate change impacts and solutions. Attendees will also receive a checklist created by Joyce with 70 climate protection action items which will be discussed at the conclusion of the presentation.

Climate Protection Residential Checklist
Post this checklist in a prominent location at home. Tackle an item or two at a time, checking them off as you complete projects and change habits. In addition to protecting the climate, you’ll save money and incorporate a little more activity into your lifestyle. On the Alameda version, leverage the resources on page 2 for assistance completing the checklist items.

11 Things You Can Do for the Climate
In October 2018, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned that we have only 12 years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C. Now we are down to 10 years. As part of their activities around the Global Climate Strike in September 2019, CASA Youth have created the 11 Things You Can Do for the Climate (see link).  Additional actions and resources are included in the CASA Climate Protection Checklists below.
